The Centre

The retreat house offers a place of silence and hospitality within a small community in the Benedictine monastic context. We are open to all those wishing to deepen their spiritual journey.
Teaching in the tradition and practice of Christian Meditation is provided at weekend retreats and day workshops as well as personal guidance by appointment with retreat leader, Sister Catherine Quane.
From Fr Laurence Freeman OSB

The opening of the new Christian Meditation Retreat Centre at my Olivetan Benedictine monastery at Cockfosters is a happy development for all of us. It offers people from Britain and around the world a place of silence and spiritual support rooted in local monastic and parish communities. Personally, I look forward to teaching and meditating in the new Centre. We will welcome people who are just beginning their contemplative path and help others to deepen theirs. The community and the spirit of service at the Retreat Centre have created what seems to me a unique kind of blend of silence and spiritual friendship. I look forward to welcoming you.
With much love
Laurence Freeman OSB
Meditation Retreats
The centre offers day retreats for those beginning meditation, those deepening their practice (with personal guidance available), weekend retreats that are purely silent, or themed retreats which offer a contemplative approach to a wide variety of topics including young people’s needs, spirituality, scripture, the contemplative tradition, addiction and bereavement. There are 6 en-suite bedrooms for retreatants wishing to stay one or more nights. Programme for 2009.
Prayer & Retreats
Retreatants can enjoy the daily prayer and liturgy of the neighbouring small monastic community and welcoming parish of the Monastery and Church of Christ the King, as well as the neighbouring Benedictine Centre for Spirituality.
Location

The Christian Meditation Retreat Centre is easily reached by the Piccadilly Line of the Underground ’tube’ rail system. The nearest stop is Oakwood, on the northerly section of the line. Visitors should come out of the station and turn left along the main road (Bramley Road) which runs past the station. The Meditation centre is located at the back of the modern Christ the King church and monastery on Bramley Road. Follow the path under the arch separating these buildings and around the back to the left. The Retreat Centre is a few minutes from Trent Park, a large park with quiet country walks. Location.
